Coffee wouldn’t be possible without the farmers around the world who grow it. That’s why we work alongside them to support sustainable farming practices and their communities.

C03-Arla-Responsibility

Support of British Farmers

From the neighbourhoods where our stores are located to those where our coffee is grown, we are committed to creating and investing in opportunities for people around the world.

Our commitment to communities extends beyond our stores to also cover the people that supply our agricultural products, including milk. To ensure a fair price is paid to all the farmers who deliver our fresh, nutritious dairy milk, we source our milk for stores in England and Wales from the UK’s largest farmer owned cooperative, Arla Foods, who pay back all profits to the farmers that produce it.

The farmers that supply Starbucks milk are leading the way in all aspects of farming, from animal welfare and sustainable farming to farm innovation and food quality, as well as advanced hygiene and safety practices – all of which are helping to ensure the highest quality milk for your perfect Starbucks brew.

Plastic Recycling Closed Loop

Starbucks has a long-standing commitment to sustainability, and as part of our ongoing aspiration to reduce waste and become a resource positive company, we are continuously looking for ways to better manage our waste in stores and in communities; and developing more eco-friendly operations, from stores to supply chain.

In addition to supporting their sustainable farming practices, we also partner with farmer owned co-operative Arla foods on a plastic recycling closed loop system, to ensure no additional plastic is added back into the supply chain from the dairy milk we use in our beverages.

Empty dairy milk bottles are collected from our stores then recycled into new plastic for the next milk bottle – avoiding the use of virgin plastic and the amount of single-use materials we introduce to begin with.
